Start your year by reconnecting with clients and finding new listings.
Will this year be the best year yet for your real estate business? It really depends on the choices you make. To drive my point across, let me share a story called “The Tale of Two Markets.”
In this story, the first market works like this: it’s January, and everything is beautiful. You have more clients than you could ever imagine. You get one appointment after the other, and you’re helping your clients like a pro. You’re busy hitting your goals without a holiday slump.
Now, let’s flip the script to market number two: it’s the worst. The holidays drag on, and you find yourself asking, “When can I get back to the office?” You think about calling clients but hesitate, wondering if they’re ready, so you wait until next week to call. Sound familiar?
Hopefully it goes without saying, but your goal should be to create a market like the first one, not the second. So, how can you jumpstart your year and get back on track with your clients? Here are three tips:

1. Focus on what’s important. Reevaluate your to-do list and weed out the small stuff like perfecting your business cards, updating your website, cleaning your office, and many other things. Instead, focus on what will truly move the needle. Don’t wait for the perfect time; call your clients to find out how you can help them now.
2. Reconnect and redevelop strategy sessions. If you haven’t met with a client in the last three, four, or even five months, it’s time to reconnect. Set up an appointment to reset a strategy session. Things have changed in both your lives, so sit down and map out a new strategy together to make sure you’re both on the same page. This shows your dedication to serving them well.
3. Find some listings. There may not be many listings on the market right now. After focusing on the first two steps, it’s time to get proactive. Spend time looking for properties you can list and seek out those not yet on the market. The more you know about upcoming properties, the better you can help your clients.
Don’t wait for listings to magically appear. Start finding them now, so you can be a resource to your clients. Call agents you know and connect with potential sources so you can share valuable information to your clients.
